Personal
We still live in Naperville so we are trying for the shortest distance trophy-5 miles.
I have been retired for the past 18 years.
I have been married to the same person for 48 years, which is something I never thought I would accomplish.
Yes, I do know a celeb! My wife’s uncle appeared on the New York stage in Oklahoma, has been in the movies on a regular basis: “Undercover Man” with Glen Ford, “Knock On Any Door” with Bogart and Derek, “Asphalt Jungle” with Marilyn Monroe, Ma and Pa Kettle movies, “The Love Bug”, and had a weekly role on “Steve Wilson, Illustrated Press” as Charlie Anderson, Assistant Editor.
I don’t remember the NCHS alma mater but I still remember Eola’s school song.
My greatest “high” is to plan something and accomplish it.
When I look back on my Naperville years, the words that come to mind are “gee, I wish the present was as simple as the past.”
My hidden talent is restoring antique cars from the ground up.
My autobiography would be titled “Cheap, Cheap, Cheap.”
No, I did not turn out like my parents.
My proverb or quote is “If it is to be, it is up to me.”
I have lived in Naperville 68 years and no one from my family is living in the family home, although it is still standing.
Memories
My favorite memory of Naperville is going to the YMCA Summer Playschool Program and the band concerts.
I would like to visit Rike’s dimestore again.
Mr.Coleman is a memorable high school teacher. A favorite high school memory was when Mrs. McBride broke her necklace made of beads. She used to twirl it in her fingers and one day it just gave out.
There is a prank/joke that I will always remember: 037 014. You can figure this out if you put your thinking cap on.
If I could relive one hour of high school, it would be the multi-school spring concert.
The Seniors had the cool cars.
The fashion statement that I remember are the Ivy League pants with the buckle in the back.
My favorite place to eat was at the A & W.
On Sundays we went to church.
The cafeteria meal I remember was the turkey dinner before Thanksgiving for 35 cents.
My favorite song and group were the 4 Preps singing “Big Man.”
I remember being sad at graduation knowing that the carefree times were ending.
The eccentric person I remember was Floyd Thompson’s Dad who knew Naperville
history.
My first job was at the Naperville News Agency and Hedblom and Levee.
My favorite television program was “Highway Patrol” with Broderick Crawford.
The ads and jingles that stick in my mind are DUZ DUZ Everything, Buster Brown, Ovaltine, and Rice Crispies.
I admired Eisenhower at the time.
The person that scared me was Mr. Yackley. He was crazy! He would hunt rabbits in our yard with a shotgun.
A special memory was Mr. Morgan’s dance class. I had two left feet than and I still do.
When I was in elementary school, I enjoyed the submarine stories our 6th grade teacher, Mr. Lenhart, used to tell us.
My summer were spent at the beach or helping my Dad in the garden.
