Nord emailed some photos with a note saying "I had wanted to embed these into a narrative...",so the Webmaster came up with some groupings, captions and general info about Bill's life and family. That way Bill has a starting point to make corrections. ("Aw, Beaster, that sucks! Here's what it should look like!") I will endeavor to impart a sober and sensitive treatment to this serious material - however, keep in mind that we are both Dave Barry fans, so "sober" and "sensitive" are, ah, subject to interpretation. Or maybe beyond hope.
Bill's family consisted of wife Carol, daughter Heidi and son Ted. The dogs and grandkids came later.
Group 1 - the not-so-recent past. This includes photos of Bill's children as Young Adults. Since Bill basically never grew up, they had already passed him in maturity and had thrown out his whoopee cushions and hand buzzers.
The caption here refers to the fact that Heidi is an M.D., whereas Bill's doctorate is in something like potato farming.
The Nordbrocks developed a taste for wild, windswept coastline, possibly as a result of visiting Navy Pier. This led to the purchase of a plot of land on the Isle of Skye. (No, I'm not telling where that is - look it up.) The history books say that they got it for $24 worth of beads and a prized bottle of Bourbon, since the locals can't stand Scotch.
At the present rate of progress, their dwelling should be built by 2033.
The Nordbrocks spent about eight years living overseas, some in Scotland, the bulk in Germany. The reaction of the local populaces eventually led to their passports being revoked.
Group 2 - Ted's two children (making them Bill and Care's grandkids) and the more recent past, generationally speaking.
I haven't figured out whether this is at the club where Fritzie's other grandma goes gliding, or the name of the business is "Grandma's Gliding Club".
Group 3 - the "sunset years". "Little slices of life" photos.
Bill makes a living as a neuropsychologist, sometimes employed by others, sometimes in private practice working wih Carol. His groundbreaking work with this famous patient, on the mysterious space between the skull and the brain, led to the theory of "dark matter" in the universe.
Bill and Care picked up the unusual hobby of rescuing Dalmations (figures that someone in the medical field would have to specialize, even in dog rescue). The late great Artie was the size of a small Carribean island, and occasionally ate one for lunch. They frequently rescue Dalmations that have been painted brown and are being used in pony rides.

An enjoyable experience this is meant to be. Right. Like early stage Alzheimer’s is an enjoyable experience. By the next reunion I’ll be unaware of how much I’ve forgotten and, then, it might be an enjoyable experience.
Personal
Don’t tell anybody, but……
1. We’re traveling from metropolitan Huntley, IL, all of about 50 miles. But, of course, round trip that’s over 75 miles.
2. Grandlings are two in number and sex. Fritzie is 7 and his latest quotation is: “I think I’m falling in love with my brain.”; and Karin is 4 and her latest quotation is “Grandad has stinky feet.” Great grands: Hey, these kids are precocious but not that precocious.
3. Working or retired? Retired after 25 years w/the Dept. of Defense. Working much harder now that I’m retired. The Germans have a saying: Rentner haben kein Zeit. (Retirees have no time).
4. Surprise accomplishments? None since my wife agreed to marry me 45 years ago.
5. Athletic accomplishments? Well, I can still climb two flights of stairs. Actually, come to think of it, I got a trophy at the age of about 50 for winning the Camp King racketball tournament in Oberursel, Germany.
6. Favorite place? Isle of Skye, Scotland.
7. Published/recorded/exhibited. Does exhibitionism count?
8. Sing the Stabat Mater? I can’t sing Happy Birthday reliably.
9. War veteran? Nope, but I have immeasurable respect for them.
10. Volunteer/causes: ACLU, Human Rights Campaign, William E. Nordbrock Retirement Fund, rescue abandoned/abused Dalmations. Spent a lot of time knocking on doors for Obama.
11. Happiness? So many. Mornings, for one. Learning. Laughing. Loving and being loved. Walking on Skye.
12. Naperville years? Period of growth and fun. Nice, comfortable small town with a lot of very good folks who taught me a great deal.
13. Hidden talent. I rite good and got good grammer.
14. Title of Autobiography. Bob Nordbrock.
15. Turned out like Mom or Dad? Yes. Have Dad’s low forehead and close set eyes and Mom’s long arms w/dragging knuckles.
16. Proverb/philosophy of life: “Anyone who is not in an asylum has the duty to think.” I also like “Common sense is the collection of prejudices acquired by age eighteen.” by Einstein
17. Not local, by court order.
Memories
1. Favorite memory of Naperville? I promised I wouldn’t tell.
2. Naperville store? The barber shop w/the Playboys under the counter.
3. HS teacher? Bill Hill and the lady who taught Latin, whose name I’ll never forget.
4. Prank or joke? I think it was the Sr. Ditch Day but I really can’t remember much about it. I really can’t.
5. Relive one hour? The time I shot at the wrong basket in the Batavia game. Next time I won’t miss.
6. Cool cars? B. Howard Groves’ red and white ’57 Chevy.
7. Fashion statements? I don’t recall any of my statements, but I did like dirty bucks.
8. Favorite place to eat? Chobars at 2am.
9. Sundays? Tennis at the North Central courts. All day.
10. Cafeteria meal? All were memorable.
11. Favorite movie/song/musical group? Movies: Mighty Mouse; Song: I Enjoy being a Girl; Musical group: Miss Kinesia and The Tardive Five.

13. Eccentric characters? I take that to mean all my really good friends.
14. First job? Either detassling (soybeans) or Fuller Brush for Sam the Man Irwin w/Doug Nuckols, Terry Clark and B. Howard Beaster.
15. Did you have a favorite TV program? Yes
16. Ads/jingles/commercials: Nope but I remember Franklin McCormack peddling Meister Brau at around midnight on the weekends. How about Ken Nordeen’s word jazz?
17. Famous people admired: Joseph Heller (laughed so hard I cried). Ernest Hemingway, Lincoln. Churchill. My folks.
18. Anybody scared me? Yes, but if I say their names, they’ll come after me.
19. Activities/sports/dances etc: Band concerts, dances at the Y, long days at the beach, tennis, basketball, drinking..oops, I mean wholesome teen parties.
20. Elementary school: Made long time friendships at Washington School.
21. Summer? Played a lot of chess w/B. Groves; installed blacktop driveways w/a neighbor, took a raft down the mighty DuPage w/Terry Clark, played basketball, tennis, had good friends whom I still remember w/great fondness.
