Reunion questionnaire -

After Naperville Community High School, North Central College (NCC) gave me a great start for a career in mathematics education that just passed 45 years and is still running. Downers Grove South High School (DGS) took the bulk with 32 of those years (28 as Math Department Chair). A masters degree came from Northwestern University and after retirement from DGS, a doctorate in mathematics education was completed in 1996 at Northern Illinois University. Current professional activities include a part-time professorship at NCC in mathematics and the supervision of student teachers in secondary math at NIU. It's great to be back at NCC - life is wonderfully satisfying!

My wife of 44 years, Sharon, was a high school sweetheart and we've grown together. She retired in 1999 after a career as a secretary at DGS. Some part-time work has come her way but nothing at the present and no desire to seek something. Nice staying at home! We had two sons, Kirk and Kevin. Kirk is vice president for a development company sort of in line with his architecture major in college. Unfortunately, Kevin lost a battle with testicular cancer at age 30. We are a close family and have always done lots of activities together.

When the kids were younger, we traveled a great deal with a camper. With summers available, we took two extended (nearly two month) trips In the United States and have some really great memories. Lately, we have taken trips outside the continental US and have ventured to the Baltic states, the Mediterranean, Italy, the British Isles, and twice to Alaska. We really love to travel and try to learn with each adventure.

Our main hobby is collecting and displaying the little Christmas houses produced by the Department 56 company in MN. We have specialized in the Dickens' Village In the series and have a set up with about 400 lighted buildings as well as the accessories, trees, roads, etc. In fact, we were short on space and put an addition on our house to accommodate the village. We are members of a collectors club which helps to support our 'addiction'. We have attended several collector conventions and have met some really great people who share our interest. Once a year we sponsor an open house for people to see our display as well as others in our club. The donations we charge for the open houses help the Ronald McDonald House near Loyola in the Chicago area. The entire hobby is very satisfying for Sharon, Kirk, as well as me.

We have had a great life to this point and trust that our good fortunes will continue.
